When you suffer injuries in a vehicle collision caused by someone else, you should be able to claim compensation from them. To do this, you will need to be able to prove that they were at fault.
One way you can do this is through images captured at the scene. Here are some shots you can try to capture with your phone camera:
People’s details
Rather than write down the other driver’s details, just get a photo of their license and insurance document. It’s quicker and saves you from writing something down wrong. You could also snap a photo of the police officer’s name or badge number, to make it easier to contact them and access their report later. Details of witnesses, even if just of their license plate, could also be useful.
Photos of your injuries
Photos showing a fresh injury can help to validate your claim that the injury occurred in the collision. Insurers sometimes seek to claim an injury happened elsewhere to avoid paying for it. If you have passengers, remember to get photos of their injuries, too.
Pictures of the scene
You want as many photos as possible of the crash scene to give your legal team the best chance of determining what happened. Take photos close up and from far away. You want to capture the damage to all the vehicles, tire marks on the road, other vehicles and people involved, the weather and road conditions and the amount of traffic at the time. Switching your phone camera to video mode can help you capture relevant conversations, too.
Obviously, you might not always be able to get the photos you’d like to take. It depends on your injuries. But if you can, then you should — and make sure to take them with you when you seek legal guidance.
