You remember your children climbing it when they were young, and you enjoy sitting in its shade on summer days. Legally, it is often permissible for someone to trim a tree that isn’t on their property—but only up to the property line. If branches hang over onto your neighbor’s property, they are allowed to cut them down, and you typically can’t stop them.
However, if your neighbor trims branches on your side of the property line—or removes the tree entirely—this could constitute a serious violation of your rights.
